Description

Debut director Coralie Fargeat announces her stunning arrival, painting a crimson canvas of hypnotic beauty and bloody retribution in this razor-sharp feminist subversion of the revenge-thriller. Jen (fearlessly embodied by Matilda Lutz, Rings) is enjoying a romantic getaway with her wealthy boyfriend which is suddenly disrupted when his sleazy friends arrive for an unannounced hunting trip. Tension mounts in the house until the situation abruptly––and viciously––intensifies, culminating in a shocking act that leaves Jen left for dead. Unfortunately for her assailants, Jen survives and reemerges with a relentless, wrathful intent: revenge. A white-knuckle tale of transgression and transformation, REVENGE gloriously blurs the lines of vengeance and survival while simultaneously delivering a ferocious dissection of gender and genre.

This is the prototypical guy movie. Its beyond gory. Rape. Violence. And sexualization. DO NOT RENT THIS ONE! It has no redeeming qualities.

Acting was okay. For what seems like the first 30 mins the female has no lines. She looks great though. The premise was there but sorely lacking, it just wasn’t believable from the stand point of the injuries she sustained. It’s an okay if you’re not expecting much.
  • If that was Sylvester or Bruce would it still be good!

The things she did or didn't do were never mentioned in any review I read for this movie! Kill Bill really! Tanantino could have made this movie 15 years ago it would have been a box office hit. Oh well a French revenge movie? Well it's great and too all the intellectuals out their that get caught up in "That's Not Possible", sorry. It's a great film that has good acting, great characters and wonderful photography! Bravo maestro! Bravo Coralie Fargeat for making it so. Move over Rocky.

This is a slow burn kind of thriller that holds your attention right up until the end. It is gruesome to watch in more than one way. It’s not just the blood, or the various gritty and violent scenes. It’s the fact that women experience this kind of horror all the time, normalized by a society and culture that make them out as the problem, not the victim. Then there is this movie! Where the victim fights back. It’s violent, it’s exhilarating, it’s gory, and it’s a masterpiece.

This was a terrible movie with forced, non-existent stereotypical "points" it tries to make. At first I thought maybe just to make you dislike the characters, then it became clear that this was how someone viewed the world and this movie was their revenge against men. The acting is not that great, the editing is a little strange. The female lead did a good job and has a great cinematic look to her but her role was a waste and the character far too unbelievable. The visuals are pretty good however, nice cinematography throughout.

Better than expected for what it is. Going in with low expectations, I found myself enjoying it more and more. Let's call it a guilty pleasure. Think of someone that done ya wrong--REAL wrong--before you watch. :)
